The beach owes its name to a large alder (‘ontano’ in Italian) tree that has thrived on the shoreline for decades. This species of tree loves an environment rich in water and sunlight, and together with other plants it gives the beach pleasant areas of shade which provide cooler spots when the sun is at its hottest. Thanks to its large grassy area, on this shoreline you can relax completely as you admire the lake and the mountain peaks. Given its large size, the beach is a suitable destination for families and groups. It also has a restaurant with a bar.
From March to October, the Breva, Lake Como’s characteristic wind, softly sweeps along Ontano beach making it a favourite place for water sports such as windsurfing and kitesurfing. It has a fully equipped school for these sports.
